Brussels center has paid parking and garages, usually around €2–€4 per hour, with availability improving in garages but not cheap. Park-and-ride is generally the better choice for convenience and lower cost if you don’t need to drive in the center.

Generally no road tolls or vignettes for private cars leaving Brussels. Belgium has no city congestion charge in Brussels for ordinary drivers, though some routes may have parking or low-emission zone rules in the city itself.

Worth a quick car detour are Bruges, Ghent, or the castle town of Leuven.

Brussels typically sees only light snow, but winter weather can still cause slippery roads and delays. Winter tyres are not usually mandatory in the city, though they become important for trips into hilly or mountainous areas where chain or tyre requirements may apply.

Trams have priority and you must not pass them when passengers are boarding or alighting; also be alert for bike lanes and lots of one-way streets. Speed limits and low-emission/traffic restriction zones are enforced, with cameras and parking rules taken seriously.

The main airport is about 15 km from central Brussels.

Late spring and early autumn, especially April–June and September, are the best times for mild weather and canal walking. Summer is popular and lively, but it can be crowded.

Amsterdam has very limited and very expensive central parking, often about €6–€10+ per hour. Park-and-ride is strongly recommended over driving into the core.

Yes-Amsterdam has a congestion charge for some access/parking areas in and around the city, but not a general road toll on outbound routes. The main issue is more local parking/zone charges than highway tolls.

Amsterdam has low-emission and restricted-access rules in parts of the city, but these mainly target certain older vehicles rather than requiring a special sticker. Rental cars are usually affected only if they are high-emission or enter restricted areas.

By car, try Zaanse Schans, the Dutch waterland villages like Edam, or the dunes and coast at Bloemendaal/ Zandvoort.

Amsterdam usually has mild winters with occasional frost or light snow, but heavy snow is uncommon. Winter tyres are not generally required, and there are no major mountain passes nearby.
